Even stranger, Maggie hadn’t even deleted the backup, as if she wanted us to see it on purpose. Suddenly, I remembered a glint of reflected light under the passenger seat after practice that day—something like a tiny lens. A chill crept up my spine. I realized then that this carefully designed trap had been laid long ago. But who was behind it? And why were they determined to push us into a corner like this?

There are only doors here, lots and lots of doors floating around like hooded ghosts. Van approaches the nearest one. The door must be more than eight feet tall for it towers above Van’s head. Carved around the decorated knocker is an inscription:

Unable to reach Max, I had to go to his office. When I arrived, neither Max nor Coco were there. The receptionist mentioned they were at Disneyland. The manager tried to brief me on company matters, but I waved him off. "I'm just dropping something off." However, I froze in shock when I opened the door to Max's office. The once minimalist black-and-white decor was then splashed with color, the artwork replaced by intimate photos of Max and Coco. A corner of the room had been converted into a mini-suite, complete with a bed, shower, and—shockingly—a pair of pink lingerie hung on the wall. The curtains were stained, and there was an unmistakable odor permeating the space.

She smiled. “By the way, let me make it clear to you now. We’re nothing to each other inside these walls. The whole world will see us as lovers, but you and I both know the truth. Let it remain like that. You mean nothing to me behind closed doors, understood?” He said sternly.

“Probably what he always says.” “Which is?” “That some doors are better left closed.” He nodded slowly. “And yet here we are, kicking them wide open.” I stood, picking up my coat. “Some doors need to be.”

“Axel, what are we going to do?” “These doors are bulletproof.” I'd thought the space was open between the living quarters and the bedroom, but now I could see there were doors hidden in the walls. He pushed his palm into the molding, and the doors popped out so they could slide closed. “Shut the doors and lock yourself on the inside.”

Somewhere behind me, metallic doors clang shut.
