A pause. “Only to them,” he said. Then, more quietly— “Not to you.” I held his gaze for a long moment. Then I nodded once. “Okay.” Not agreement with everything. But acceptance of where we were. He seemed to understand that. He took my empty mug and set it aside. Then he reached for my hand briefly. Just a light touch. Grounding. Intentional. “Stay close today,” he said. “I will.” “And if anything feels off—”

he mumbled, trying to come near me when I stop him from doing it so. “YAH! Be conscious of our distance okay?” I warned him as if he has some kind of infectious illness. “Good, keep that in your mind,” I said and begin my pace again. I can still look after him and do my job even if I keep my distance away from him right? I am afraid that being closer to him might misunderstand again by Quir. I don’t want to quarrel with him for the second time.

“Stay with me.” ***

“Do you think they know we’re onto them?” Jordan didn’t answer immediately. He adjusted the screen, eyes narrowing. “They do. And that’s why we need to act fast. They’re always one step ahead—anticipating our moves, predicting our decisions.” Her hand brushed his arm as she stepped closer. The slow-burn tension between them had never been more tangible. Just being near him, feeling the heat from his body and the steadiness of his focus, made her chest tighten. Jordan glanced at her, dark eyes softening for the briefest moment. “Stay close,” he said quietly. “Don’t wander off. Not even for a second.”
