The beast felt Hayden stir too and shook its head, trying to resist. Georgia knew now that the two canceled each other out, their respective halves of the unified soul they inhabited could only exist to the exclusion of the other. As soon as one’s consciousness was brought more dominantly to the surface, the other’s was forced to recede. It was like a careful balancing act to hold their attention at the same time.
