He didn’t flinch at my knife, and I realized, one second after I had started to speak, that a wire was at my throat.
Very slim, near invisible. A hidden weapon.
From his watch, he had pulled a string, but if he had used it, both of us would have died. No doubt.
But that didn’t faze me. It was a situation I had encountered often enough.
“Yes…I look forward to that,” he rumbled, the smile still on.
His hand reached for Jay and headbutted him. He dodged it smoothly. Too smoothly.
I stared at him as he backed away, then grinned and left.
