I had held onto it not just because I wanted the reward, but because it gave me leverage, like something playful to dangle in front of him when everything else between us felt so damn heavy.
I tossed the towel onto the chair and crossed my arms. “Fine. You want to know?”
His eyes brightened, curiosity written all over his face. “Yes. Tell me.”
I let the silence linger a little longer, just to add more suspense. Then, with a small shrug, I said, “I want the award for best member of the book club.”
Arian blinked. For a second, I thought he hadn’t heard me. Then his lips parted, and a soft laugh escaped him. “What?”
