Ember started to defend, shaking her head back and forth as she moved to step back, but I grabbed her arm, keeping her close to me.
"Don't lie to me, Little Fairy," I repeated, emphasizing the name. She could play innocent all she wanted, but that was what their kind was good at. Lies. Deception. Magic.
