A scream tore through Lilith's lips, and she crawled away from the grave in sheer terror, panting heavily. As fear consumed her, Lilith felt a presence behind her. Slowly, she turned around, trembling with trepidation. To her astonishment, the dead girl stood there, her sad expression unchanged. They locked eyes, but the dead girl remained silent, her ghostly presence sending shivers down Lilith's spine. Overwhelmed by the sight of the apparition, Lilith rose to her feet and scrambled out of the woods, screaming in fear with each step.

His voice quivered as he described the brutal scene that unfolded before his eyes, the man transforming into a monstrous being, his humanity slipping away as easily as a snake shedding its skin. The revelation sent a shiver down my spine, a feeling of dread settling in my gut. I shared a glance with Aiden, his expression mirroring my own. This was no ordinary murder. This was something far more sinister, a creature of the night leaving a trail of death in its wake. The old man's tale ended with the stranger disappearing into thin air as if he had never existed. A chill ran down my spine at the thought. It was as if we were chasing a ghost, a phantom that could vanish without leaving a trace.

Tonight, would not be one of those times. The hound between them rolled to his belly and laid his head between his paws, closing his eyes. He looked as if he were drifting off to sleep, but the two friends knew that the hound’s senses would remain on high alert allowing the two friends to relax and enjoy the night air. There was nothing out there that was stronger or scarier than a hellhound. He was what the things that went bump in the night feared. “I’m just deciding what the next ones that we should get together should be.” Celeste motioned to the empty space on her arm between the other tattoos.

Mason's insidious actions had awakened a primal terror, plunging the realm into darkness. The stories surrounding these deaths painted a macabre picture of savagery. It seemed as though the victims had met their demise at the hands of a beast, their necks brutally ravaged, as if drained of every drop of blood. The grotesque nature of the killings left witnesses traumatized, their minds struggling to comprehend the horror that unfolded before their eyes. The realm had become a haunted place, plagued by the specter of death at every turn.

Rain asked, eyeing the twins like they might pounce. I hesitated. “Like what?” “I don’t know! ‘Hey, you okay?’ ‘Blink twice if you’re not cursed? ’ I snorted, but the sound came out nervous. “They might not even hear us.” Rain waved a cautious hand in front of them. “Uh… hello? Earth to Rowan and Gemma?” Nothing. Not a twitch. He dropped his hand. “Okay, that’s not normal.” “No kidding.” “I’m telling you, this is how horror movies start,” Rain whispered. “Two kids staring into space, everyone ignores the signs, next thing you know, someone’s getting dragged into a mirror or eaten by shadows.”

"And you have pissed me off." He believes me. Suddenly he believes every horror story he has been told since he was a little boy. That they were all true: the dead things hungering for the warm living flesh; the bony hand coming out of the closet in the black of night; the monsters from another page of reality, the unturned page--who could look so human, so cute. What self-proclaimed fan of horror doesn’t have those two in their top 10? “Honestly… ‘IT’ was my best.” My jaw drops instantly. “No fucking way. That’s no one’s best, especially the second part.” “Actually, I preferred the second part to the first.” He shrugs his shoulder casually. I clutch my chest in pain while watching him casually spit the most controversial shit in the entire history of horror, like it’s nothing. “You’re a psychopath.” I say, dramatically turning my head away from him. He chuckles loudly, holding his chest for a brief moment while settling right beside me, in between the mesh of blankets.

This was the blood of a kindly old man who grew tomatoes, and the sheer, wanton cruelty of it, the vivid, screaming red of it, made the world tilt on its axis. I felt the breakfast I hadn't yet eaten rise in my throat. Just because I had killed zombies, it didn't mean the sight of blood, real human blood spilled in atrocity, was getting any better to handle. If anything, it was getting worse. It was a reminder that the greatest monsters in this fallen world were not always the ones who moaned and shambled, but the ones who could still scream.
