After the battle, the temple slowly fell into sin and temptation, like everything else, the true purpose was lost in the years of absurdity. At first the monks had a strong will against the sins of normal man, but even they fell under the power of temptation, greed, lust, envy, wrath and above else pride. With that they neglected their true purpose, to fight against the forces of evil. They became worse than the evil they pledged to vanquish. It wasn’t long since they started conducting dark rituals and making pacts with the devils of the old world. And still they wanted more; they constantly searched for a way to subdue the demons under their power. They were partially successful.

I sure as hell don’t want to sleep with that asshole now. I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest, leaning back against the TV stand. His comment hurt. I don’t want to admit it, but I felt a little pang in my chest when he said it was degrading. It felt gratifying to me, and freeing, but he’s making me feel like trash for wanting to take back control of my own sexuality while sticking it to the one that abused me and my wolf for so long. It hurt. Darren was huffing in disbelief. “For real, man? What the hell are you doing then? Selling Bibles on your special little business trips? What a fucking hypocrite.”

My heart paused for a bit as if giving my brain a chance to take in that information, but I shot him a look. "The Bible says flee from temptation, Caleb." He laughed, I felt it within me.

Ryder's eyes flared, his pupils blowing wide as he realized the game she was playing. "The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:4 that 'Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge,'" she quoted, her voice dropping into a sultry, melodic lilt. She leaned forward slightly, her breasts straining against the silk of her bodice. "It's comforting to know that my mother doesn't have to worry about Ryder ever straying. Because he's a man of the cloth. A man who knows that the flesh is weak, but the spirit is willing." She paused, a wicked, barely perceptible smirk touching her lips.

“Fascinated by religious texts, my dear?” Lyda closed the book, and Adea could see the design of the cover, which boasted an intricate cross shape just above the words, Holy Bible. She did know what kind of book it was, but she was alarmed nonetheless by the woman’s mention of religious texts. Adea had a bad feeling in her gut that Lyda was trying to pursue her obsession further. “What is this book?” Lyda asked. The elderly woman stared at it in silence for a moment as if trying to find the right words to describe it. “Well, I would say it’s a collective of religious and allegorical texts recounting the long history of Outside culture and the deities they worshiped.”

Then he stormed out, slamming the door behind him so hard the frame rattled. Outside the bedroom, Zayren’s hands trembled as he grabbed a full bottle of wine. He didn’t bother with a glass this time. He just twisted it open and brought it straight to his lips. He drank deep. Trying to drown the image of her face. Of her undressing in front of him. Of her voice telling him that it disgusted her to have his touch on her skin. That he made her sick. That his mouth, his presence, his desire... meant nothing but shame and filth to her.

Like he didn't believe what he was saying. A bitter chuckle escaped me, the sound low and cutting through the stale room. “So is lying and pretending. I listen to all your sermons, Father. I'm pretty sure that getting on your knees and opening that same mouth you use to condemn me to take my fucking dick is also a sin” I paused, scoffing. “You wanna talk about abominations? A portion of the Bible came up immediately and I went to check it out. It was 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. I checked my Bible immediately and it said; 'Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.' I read along and sighed looking for a keyword I could hold on to to remind me of my faith and promise to myself whenever dad loses himself again.

I need your wisdom, Lord. The Bible I was holding fell down wide open. The pages flipped and brought my eyes to the book of Proverbs 19:9 – A false witness shall be punished, and a liar shall be caught. I would be punished from my wrong doings. I lied. I had a discreet sexual relationship with the member of the congregation. I would be punished for I was false witness and a liar. I hoped I would not be caught but God was not sleeping for he knew everything hidden down the earth, and he would give me what I truly deserved. The curtains swayed back and forth from the breeze whooshing and roaring thunder came afterwards which brought me to sleep.

– the voice didn’t wait for a response –“Apparently pilfering every word wasn’t enough, they even added in a bunch of nonsense!! The Holy Scripture had been butchered!! Simply butchered beyond recognition!!!” Noah’s righteous indignation faltered, and suddenly he felt a bit bad for this unfortunate… deity? He spoke up, “Uh… it… it isn’t that bad?
