She could hear Jax’s roar, the thunder of his pistol firing back, the shouts of men as chaos exploded around them.
Time fractured. One second, the world was a roar of violence. The next, it was silence again.
When she dared to lift her head, Jax stood at the center of the alley, chest heaving, gun raised. Several bodies lay on the ground. The rest of the bikers had peeled away, engines fading into the distance.
He turned to her. “You okay?”
She nodded shakily, though she wasn’t sure it was true.
He reached down, hauling her up with one arm around her waist. “Come on. We’re moving before more show.”
