Billy is the first to break the silence. He clears his throat, his voice unsteady. “Kid… my mate, my Myra… she wouldn’t do that.” His fingers twitch against his knee. “She was no dark witch. She was a light witch.”
I turn to look at him, watching the way his brows pinch together, the way his jaw tightens with something like desperation.
“I know I said she was mysterious,” he continues, “and that I didn’t know much about her, but I know she was a good woman. I know she wouldn’t do something like that.” His voice turns almost pleading. “She wouldn’t do all those things.”
