Slowly, I tapped my finger on the hardwood, creating a steady rhythm while glaring across the table from under my lashes. The elders were indirectly trying to convey a point, but not one of them dared face me with it. Not a single one of them had directly presented the sentence before me, and that was what I was waiting for. I wanted to clear the air, but first, I needed them to pollute it.
“I heard they investigated what her lineage was like, found out she was related to a generation of old wizards through her father,” Kael muttered to his colleagues, refusing to face me for reasons best known to him, even though he was speaking to me.
