The dealer burned a card. The tension at the table was thick enough to choke on. "Show them," Dante said, his eyes locked on mine. Julian flipped his cards. A King and a Queen of Spades. Twenty. It was a nearly unbeatable hand. Dante didn't flinch. He slowly turned over his own cards. Two Aces. Blackjack. A collective gasp went through the crowd. Dante had won. He had cleaned Julian out of five million euros in a single hand.

I deal her two cards face up and myself one face up, one face down. She looks down at her cards, a tiny smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. She has a ten and a six. Hard sixteen... the worst hand in blackjack. "Hit me," she says, her voice smooth. I slide a card off the top of the deck. As I do, she reaches for her wine glass, her elbow catching the edge of the table. The slight clatter draws my attention for a fraction of a second. I slide the card over... A five. Twenty-one.
