“Prez says to keep the two of you apart. Don’t get Red in trouble.” I’ve managed to keep myself under control for most of the day and now this little bleach boy is about to make me lose my shit. I suck in air as slowly as possible to gain control. I march back inside the clubhouse and wash the refrigerator out. I ignore the bleach fumes making my eyes burn and scrub until it’s spotless. I begin unpacking the items that need to stay cold. Rufus opens a door past the refrigerator. It’s a closet size pantry with enough shelves to hold the dry goods.

I take the bag from the drugstore into the bathroom and get to work. It’s late at night and I’m nearly done with my hair. The blond is now setting in my hair. I was pretty pleased with the way the bleach came out. It wasn’t as stiff as I thought it might get. I change the channel on the old school TV again, uninterested in whatever nonsense is on this channel. I keep clicking through, killing time until I can rinse out the blond. My mind goes blank as I keep scanning channels. There’s a romance movie and the lead characters rush into each other’s arms in the rain. There’s a nature documentary about wolves. There’s a murder crime tv show. And every single glimpse makes me think… about Drake.
