Cain called from across the kitchen, where he was sweeping up glass.
“I’ll order something,” Darien said, not taking his eyes off me. “Pizza sound good?”
I laughed despite myself. “You have pizza here?"
“Of course we do. We have a few restaurants underground. So.” Darien leaned against the counter. “Pizza?"
“Extra cheese,” I heard myself say.
His grin was blinding. “Extra cheese it is.”
And as Cain whooped and went back to sweeping, as Darien pulled out his phone to place the order, as I stood in the wreckage of the kitchen I’d destroyed, I felt something shift inside me.
