The moon hung in the sky like a brilliant, oversized flashlight. Lila leaned her forehead against the window pane. It felt cool and soothing. Peering into the illuminated night, she looked out onto the mountain in hopes of spotting Marcus and his pack approaching the castle. She’d had no word from Ben about the rescue Jasper and the werewolves were planning for her, but this would be the prime time for them to do it. She closed her eyes and tried to visualize Jasper in his wolf form as he raced through the woods with the pack, but the pain in her back wouldn’t allow her mind to focus.

I didn’t feel my body hit the ground, but when the sensation returned to my fingers and toes and my eyes cracked open all I saw was the orange hues of the twilight sky above me. Chaos had once again ensued around me, in the distance I could see Jasper fighting Dark, but by the sluggish movements, I knew Dark’s power was affecting him. Frozen in my position I watched as Jasper collapsed to his knees, looking completely drained of energy and my heart thumped wildly in my chest. Dark held a dagger over Jasper’s spent body, ready to thrust the silver blade into his chest when a scream bubbles from my chest.

Jasper was silent as he led me up the stairs. I paused as something caught my eyes. "Graduation caps?" "Yes." "Hmm, you're not a vampire, are you?" Jasper let out a laugh. “Despite the name, no. His complexion was paler, and the vitality that had once shone from his eyes had noticeably dimmed. The sight of him made Alyssa's heart ache. Tears instantly welled in her eyes. Her heart hurt for him so much. Sensing her sorrow, Jasper felt his own chest tighten. Instinctively, he reached out to take her hand. But suddenly, darkness swept across his vision. A searing pain exploded inside his skull, spreading rapidly through his body and causing his limbs to stiffen. While everyone's attention remained fixed on Winston, Jasper quietly retreated. His legs trembled beneath him as he turned around and slipped out of the dining room unnoticed.

Jasper froze, looking like a prey that had been caught by a predator. "How then do you know about Freya?" Diana continued. "And how do you know I'm a Moon Spirit?" Jasper fumbled, looking for the right words to say. When he realized he had really been caught, he dropped the act. The innocent look disappeared from his face and he glared at Diana, his gray eyes turning completely dark. His canines emerged, protruding from the side of his lips. He stared at her like he was possessed, his eyes wild and eerie.

As terrifying as it was to witness, Allen couldn't seem to tear his eyes away. "Close your eyes, my love, " Lexi purred as she turned to Allen with her unseeing eyes, "I don't want you to see this side of me..." "I love all of you Lexi… always, no matter what." Allen breathed in awe, utterly enthralled with the sight of his terrifyingly beautiful mate. A slow smile crossed her face as a brilliant light seemed to erupt within Jasper, so bright that it felt as though it would burn his eyes from their sockets and Allen was forced to close his eyes, screwing them shut reflexively despite his unwillingness to do so.

Jasper’s voice was a deep rumble, his blue eyes glowing with resolve, his hand resting on his knife, the moonlight illuminating his face, the grounds a sanctuary, the thrill a shared hunt. “We’ll corner them by the stream,” Jasper said, his voice steady, his knuckle scar glinting as he spoke, the thrill of the hunt wrapping around them, the air thick with the scent of game, the grounds a sanctuary, their bond a radiant light. “Drive them right to us.” He nodded to Mara, his boulder pendant catching the moonlight, the moonlight casting a silvery glow on his face, the grounds a haven, the thrill a shared instinct.

I will not betray him no matter what you threaten!” His old eyes narrowed as he climbed from his bed and I saw that he was nude. I was not impressed by him in any way; my lip curled sourly as he shifted into a huge white Dire covered in icy frost. “If you're trying to frighten or impress me I'm sorry but you're failing at both. My Dire is larger and so is Jasper's. Plus my fire would melt you quickly.” The air stirred and a bright light flashed within the room. The person who stood there startled us both and had us bowing our heads.
