His eyes, which used to be clouded with mist, were now cold and piercing. "Excuse me." His voice was indifferent as his gaze swept past me through the lenses of his glasses, like he was looking at a stranger. Ther wasn’t even a moment of hesitation. Surrounded by bodyguards, he walked up to the stage. As he passed me, a faint, crisp scent of wood lingered in the air. I stood frozen, taking a few seconds to react. For those two years by his side, Liam was at his lowest. He was cast out of the Hughes family after going blind from the car accident, so he had no idea what I looked like.

I closed my eyes as intense pain burst inside me and my vision started to blur. A loud, menacing growl pulled me out of my thoughts and my eyes snapped to my mate in the middle of the ring. Somehow I can see him clearly but everything else is a blur. Right now he has the alpha lying on the ground, whimpering as he sinks his teeth deep into the alpha’s back. She looks like a six-month-old pup now, so she could be a shadow maw.

And I regret believing he would be my salvation. “How... how did she do that?” Cassey gasps again, pulling me back to the present. I watch as she clings to Hunter’s arm, practically digging her nails into his flesh. I’m honestly amazed he hasn’t even realized it yet. He’s so busy looking confused and worried about his mistress that the pain—so painfully obvious—completely escapes his notice. “She... isn’t she supposed to be blind?” she continues, her voice filled with shock. “How did she... how can she... how did that—Hunter! Callie didn’t care for Divination class. She didn’t have an interest in tea leaf readings and crystal balls. Clairvoyance was an inherent gift and couldn’t be learned by those that didn’t have it.
