“Yes,” I confess, the word tasting like ash in my mouth and her eyes, though unseeing, seem to pierce through me. “Your blindness... it’s a consequence of seeing the supernatural in its purest form. It’s a protection, a mercy in a way. Your mind couldn’t comprehend what it saw, so it shut down your sight to protect you.”
She stops her futile attempts to push me away, her breaths coming out in short, unsteady gasps. Sensing her hesitation, I gently place my hands on either side of her head, careful not to startle her.
