Simon grumbled, shaking his head disapprovingly.
“But she was right there just a second ago,” Maryna said, intrigued, walking to the door and looking down the hallway, shrugging. “Did she vanish into thin air?” she asked, confused.
She was looking around until something seemed to catch her eye, and she walked off. We forgot everything that had just happened and followed Maryna into the corridor. When I left my office, I saw her holding a syringe with a bit of blood on the needle.
“What the hell happened here?” Simon asked, puzzled. But Maryna and I looked at each other, and from the way her eyes widened, I think we were both thinking about the same terrifying possibility.
