Third Wheel
I face the shower spray, knowing my conditioner will remedy my tangles.
I lather my hair with my shampoo. The fruity scent tickles my nostrils. It’s the reason I chose this shampoo. I apply soap with my loofa. The bubbles slicken my shoulders, my arms, and my abdomen. I raise my hand, soaping my breasts. I drop the loofa to the tile floor. I pump a quarter-size puddle of soap into my palm. With my back to the spray, I slowly lather each breast with a hand. The soapy bubbles cover my warm, wet skin. I lighten my touch; each nipple hardens. This is what I need. This will relax my nerves for a while.
