“The pages are blank.” “That’s what makes it useful.” He hovered his hand over a page of the book and murmured some words. The page glowed white light. “The light is an indication. It’s ready to answer my question. We get to ask a question per month. We only have one shot at this.” Lexa looked at the book, waiting for Elliot to say something. “O mighty book of answers; tell us how the gate of Seareign can be opened!” The glowing light stopped. A black and white picture was painted on the book by an imaginary hand. The picture of a snake was formed.

The journal is beaten and torn from what I can only assume is from years of use. "What have you found?" I question, walking closer. "It’s the commander's journals, there are forty-eight of them, some dating all the way back to when he was a child," Daniel says.

A pull like a magnet, weak but just about perceptible. Caitlin opened her eyes and followed the pull as it led her to a shelf of dusty books.
