“Show me!” Molly exhaled shakily, then lowered her eyes. Her fingers brushed over the cracked leather binding, then carefully opened the book. The sound of the old spine creaking echoed through the library. She flipped through brittle, yellowed pages until she stopped, pressing her palm against one as though steadying herself. She angled it so I could see.

I watched as she pressed her palm against a single, slightly uneven block. There was a faint click. She pulled the stone free, revealing a narrow hollow inside the wall. From it, she withdrew something—small, leather-bound, worn with age. A book. I frowned. “What the hell is that?” She didn’t answer right away. Her eyes were fixed on the object in her hands, her expression unreadable. Whatever it was, it had been hidden for a reason. And the fact that she was showing it to me at all told me this was no ordinary walk in the forest kind of day.

There is no mate bond, but having him close makes me feel more secure. “I can’t wait for you to see this.” He rubs his thumb on the top of my hand as he leads me to a store. He walks back to his chair, and opens a page then lays it out on the table for them to look. He then walks out of the room as Lucas had just shown at the door. John, who was closer, took the book and read the page out loud so that the others could hear him.

A few seconds later, he swirled and chimed, “Ta-da!” Brinda's jaw dropped while she stared at The Black Book in Francesco's hands. “What the hell?” She gasped.

How didn't she see it before? She examined it. Its worn leather cover showed the test of time, revealing faint traces of intricate inscriptions that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly glow. For some reason, Thalia's heartbeat sped up in excitement. She traced the inscriptions on the book with her fingers. Each dish was described in poetic detail, accompanied by stunning images that seemed to leap off the page. The aroma of fine paper and ink wafted up, teasing their senses and building their anticipation.
