I like taking my time, that way, I can get used to the idea of living with Xander. Sitting behind the counter in the bookstore, I listen to Vincent talking to his cars while I place an order for new books. One of those books is The Art of War by Sun Tsu. I want to read it and see why Alexei loves it so much. My thoughts turn to the BBQ, and I must admit, I enjoyed it a lot. And Rosemarie was right. Everyone seemed pretty normal. I don’t know what I expected. Maybe guns and men smoking cigars while plotting the end of the world?

the mystery archer sounded awfully confident in their words and I felt an insatiable urge to whack the creep across the head. “If you're playing games, I can assure you that I have absolutely no time to spare for bullshit like that, I’ve already got my hands full” I turned toward the door to leave before he/she could infuriate me any further, the sadistic clown. “Too full to make time for an ardent believer of Kai’s downfall like yourself?” The voice held a certain bitterness that made me halt in my tracks, that was an indication of just how determined the archer was to get rid of Kai, of how much he/she had also been hurt by him.

I walked quickly, my slippers making no sound on the rugs, heading toward what I hoped was an exit or at least a balcony. "Well, well, well," a voice drawled, dripping with a terrifying sort of amusement. "If this isn't the little gift for the King." I froze, my blood turning to ice. A man stepped out from the darkness of a side archway—Archer. I recognized the predatory gleam in his eyes, the way he carried himself with a reckless arrogance that suggested he feared nothing. He didn't just look at me, he raked his gaze over me, starting at the hem of my dress and lingering on the curve of my waist before finally meeting my eyes.

I also prayed earnestly that he didn’t forget me here. I spotted a bookshelf at the far end of the room and decided to look through it in hopes of finding something to read. The majority of the books were about werewolves and the pack’s history. There were also books about politics, war, and governance. I would have loved to pick up the book that contained information on all members of the Crescent Moon Pack, but I decided against it. It would seem like snooping. I finally settled on a book titled ‘The Art of War.’ Not that I was a fan of violence but I was curious to know why the author had referred to war as an art. It was such a controversial claim.

He planted himself directly in my path, his eyes blazing with a fury I had not seen before. He was trembling, but not with fear. “Not so fast,” Archer said, his voice low and venomous. “We need to talk too.” The audacity. The gall of him to stand between me and Michael. My fists itched for violence, my chest surged with wrath, yet his defiance anchored me still, daring me to strike.

“What do you mean?” I closed my eyes for a brief moment, allowing Ru to help me focus. The presence of witches was clear, their foul magic lingering in the air like a poison. But there was something else, something more… twisted. “There are witches inside,” I said slowly, “but they’re not alone. There are other creatures with them… I can feel tainted wolves.” Archer’s expression shifted, his eyes narrowing slightly as he processed what I said. Then, his lips curled into a dangerous smile, and I saw the familiar glint in his eyes—blood red and predatory. His wolf was rising to the surface, just like mine.

Archer grunted in annoyance and threw himself onto the muddy ground, “Both are violence. Is it in the nature of males? You believe that?" “I’m not sure.” Leo said blankly, “We’re wolves, aren’t we? Wolves are violent.” “You are, but I’m a human.” “Yeah? Like your dad? He’s a beast too.” sneered Leo. It was Archer’s turn to be speechless. He felt utter loneliness. He and his nature were locked in the same body, but loathed each other. "Maybe yes, I am indeed a beast, just like him. " Archer finally muttered.

Then I stumble upon what can only be Archer's study. I smile as I enter and lock the door behind me. The study is well-furnished with three leather chairs divided by a table, with one on one side and the other two on the other side. I notice a plush couch too. There are books on the shelves; Archer must love reading a lot. I flip through, noting that most of the books are on finance, business, and leadership.

"Give us a mystery! Give us a heist! Give us a plot that isn't about who I'm sleeping with!" I lunged for the Anchor just as the silver arrows struck the stone. The combination of my "Editor" energy and the conductive silver created a backdraft of pure, white-hot narrative force. The clones shattered into glass shards. The purple mist was sucked back into the pillar. And then, the voice of the Author changed. It went from a scream to a glitchy, distorted whisper. “Fine. You want a different story? You want a mystery? Then find the Architect. Book Two: The Silent Kingdom. Coming... never.”

Hours later, I was still there, pouring over my latest interest, open books everywhere on the floor around me. Funny enough, I’d never really been a fan of reading, but concentrating very hard on the words of the pages kept me from thinking of, or worse, going to look for Ivan. It was enough to keep me dedicated till now. Footsteps pried my attention from the book about animals and I looked up to see Archer walk in. Ignoring him, I returned my attention back to my book.
