Dark of Night Copyright 2019 Emily Goodwin Chapter One “What do you see when you look at this one?” The doctor holds up a card, showcasing an ink splotch that’s twisted and creepy, with eyes that follow you no matter where you go. I look at it, heart hammering away inside my chest. The mess of ink on the white paper reminds me of the monster that lurks in Nana and Papa’s basement, the one that tried to get Abby and Scott to go downstairs with it.

His father knowing his son used to be scared of darkness, dry and vacant places. That’s how his father decided to punish that little boy, wherever he wished something from his father, he used to lock him over in a room which he named it ‘a darkroom’, he scared him way too much that whenever somebody asked him if his father is treating him badly, he could only think of his own shouts and plead to his father. Never dared to tell anyone about a single abuse. Brandon knew if he opened his mouth and his father got to listen to complaints against himself, he would be a dead man by the next day.

Dark bored said. Blake frowned at him. "Do you believe you'll still be alive, Blake?" asked Dark. Blake was amazed and looked at his body lying in bed. The noise from this device was strong, Blake had a bandage on his head, he also had a bandage on his chest. Blake couldn't resist hanging onto his head and chest. Blake turned to Dark, and looked at what he was wearing. Dark is all black, with gloves and a coat. Its elegance was more pronounced in the coat, but the expression on his face was still the same.

Salvatore I sat at the damn ball and watched as the so-called she-wolves tried to dance their way into Dark’s heart. Except for one thing. Dark doesn’t have a heart. One thing that my brother does not realize is that even if he can fuck these she-wolves, none of them can satisfy the beast inside of him. Dark is ruthless; he doesn’t care about anyone but himself; he kills for fun, and he might end up killing his mate and regretting it later. My brother wasn’t always like this; he used to be kind, but his family betrayed him.

The voice from the darkness was a hook in my soul, reeling us forward into the chill. Not neatly stacked, but piled, heaped, a jumbled sea of femurs, skulls, and rib cages that filled a cavernous space from the slimy floor to the shadowed vault of the ceiling decades above. The Ossuary. The collective remains of centuries of Blackwood pack, their final energy a silent, heavy blanket that smothered the air and muted the magic in my blood to a faint, dying whisper.

I demanded, feeling a knot of anxiety tighten in my chest. Whitman sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly. “There’s an ancient darkness that was thought to have been defeated years ago. It was a force that once controlled the rogues, bending them to its will.” My heart skipped a beat. “You’re saying it’s back?” Whitman nodded. “Yes. This darkness is seeking revenge, and it has resurfaced with a new leader. The Blackthorns are merely its instruments.” Eli exchanged a worried glance with me. “And what does this have to do with the traitor?”

“It's not like that. It's not something you can get rid of. It's part of me; it's my other half. It's who and what I am. Don’t you see, I am the darkness! To get rid of it would be to get rid of me. I'm no good for you. I will only cause you pain and suffering. I am the darkness! I'm the monster everyone's afraid of. I'm the beast in the dark that children have nightmares of. I am the evil from the depths of hell and will only snuff out your light, little angel. You and I can never be together!” He said with a deep and rough voice. Smoke seeped from his body again, and a dark aura rose from his body like a shadow looming over her.

"You know, those days with you were the worst of my life. I wish I knew you were this wicked, Elena." Elena smirked. "You brought out the beast in me, love. They say, 'Don't underestimate darkness' allure; even pure hearts are drawn to it.'All thanks to you." Alan begged nervously, "Today's a happy day; don't ruin it. Let's reschedule. I'll meet you, give you whatever you want." Elena laughed, raising her hands. "What more could I ask for? Check the news, Alan. It'll clarify things."
