My heart was already racing before I even unlocked the screen. The first headline made my blood turn to ice. "Chase Pemberton Announces Engagement to Socialite Laura Bellamy After 'Devastating Heartbreak'" My hands started shaking. I clicked on the article, and there it was... Chase's face plastered across every major media outlet, standing next to a gorgeous woman with honey-blonde hair and legs that were long and went on for miles. Laura Bellamy, daughter of tech industrialist Robert Bellamy. She was smiling at the camera with practiced perfection, a massive diamond glinting on her left hand.

The hustle and bustle of the city was at its peak as the day approached noon. The streets were packed with people going on their own businesses. Along the busy streets of Plymouth city, there was a popular quaint corner pub. There were few people scattered in the pub having lunch and talking in hushed voice. The bartender/barkeep was wiping down the counter, while the casier was close to dozing off. There were two barman and barmaid serving the customers. There was a door beside the bar that led to the kitchen section of the pub. The kitchen was empty save for one person absentmindedly looking out of the only window in the small room. Eloisa was one of the two cooks of the Axe Star pub. The

Elliot and I walked into the ballroom, and we were instantly bombarded by his siblings, Saphira and Levi. The three of them are triplets and they are so much fun to be around. Saphira chimes in first, “Oh. My. Goddess! Elliot! Elisabeth is your mate! Your prayers were answered!” Elliot blushed and nodded, “They were. I see you found your mate too.” She smiled as she hugged the arm of a huge, really hot, man with brown hair and brown eyes. She beamed, “Dax Dillan, of the Mer-people, meet my brother, Prince Elliot and his new mate, Elisabeth Fox, of the White Witch Coven.” Dax smiled at us, and Elliot smiled, “Well, sis, looks like your prayers were answered too.” She winked at us and smiled,

I just kept praying that she would turn around, and tell me this was all a prank. The moment she opened the door, I called her name. She spun around, kind of hesitated before looking at me. I swallowed the morsel in my throat, and kept my hands into my pocket. "I affirm that this journey has ended, so yes, the Chase is over." She nodded, and said nothing. She just turned around, and left.

As I walked in, he held the door open for me and a young lady greeted us. She said, "Hello, my name is Cassie. Can I help you find something?" I approached her and drummed my hands atop his desk. "My name is Etheral, and I've just dropped in to take a look around for the time being. But you'll be seeing more of me later."

“Just for a minute.” She doesn’t look convinced, but after a long moment, she sighs and steps back. “Fine,” she mutters. “If he so much as breathes wrong, I’m coming back out here with a baseball bat.” Lyle almost smiles at that, but wisely keeps his mouth shut. When Jodelle disappears into the building, I turn back to him, crossing my arms. “What do you want, Lyle?” He doesn’t answer right away. Instead, he takes a slow step forward, lifting the bouquet slightly. “These are for you.”

I’m hot with embarrassment. “What’s your name?” he asks again. There’s a spark of amusement in his eyes. Fuck. “I’m Betsy Miller,” I manage at last. My ears are sweating. “Betsy . . . Ah.” It’s as if he is trying to familiarize my name. He runs his index finger down his chin. I can’t seem to look away. I have accepted my fate and just waits for his verdict. Maybe there is still a chance that he doesn’t remember me. Maybe-

"Oh wait— says here, he's engaged. How come I didn't get wind of this?" "You’re not exactly the type who fights to read the business papers in the morning, hun." His jaw dropped. "She's gorgeous!" I immediately turned the screen to me. Vincentio’s fiance looked like if Snow White was a real person, only with long black hair, designer clothes, and instead of being surrounded by dwarves, was accompanied by giant bodyguards. "'Lysa Hearst, the heiress to the clothing giant, refused to comment on her fiance's disappearance.' Hmmm, now that's suspicious.” Andrew scrolled through the page. “There is no more news about their engagement."
