She nodded, slower this time.
"Then you’ll get your prize," I said quietly, my voice low.
I turned back to the machine, my focus returning to the glass. My thumb hovered over the button.
For a moment, I paused.
Then, under my breath, I made a silent plea.
Just once.
Just give me the damn bear.
The claw closed around the bear’s head and lifted it.
My eyes stayed fixed on it as it moved slowly across the machine, suspended over the chute.
For a brief moment, everything felt still.
