I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from getting back to my boys and Dylan. We crept through the dimly lit corridor, every step calculated to avoid making any noise. The building was eerily silent, the only sound the distant hum of machinery and the occasional drip of water from leaky pipes. It felt like we were in a maze, each turn leading us deeper into the unknown.

"Lead the way." Noah beamed, his entire face lighting up with a "sunshine" energy that rivaled his niece’s. He grabbed Orion’s massive forearm, his small hand barely able to wrap around the thick, corded muscle. "You’re the best! Come on, it’s just two blocks away."

The engines kept roaring outside, carrying us thirty thousand feet closer to whatever hell we were building together. I still didn’t have my yes. But damn, I was just getting started.

He ranted. Why is he such a peanut brain? For once, couldn’t god have made a perfect humanoid robot to be friends with me?! At least that friend would have understood me! Life would have been so much easier if I just stayed in kindergarten forever… Why did I have to grow up?! What good does that do?! “Hunter, if they want us all to be a puppet for Kaylee, I won’t just follow them just to keep them around! I hate Kaylee! And I don’t wanna lose you! I love you!” I stated.

I could feel the current shifting, I could see the dandelions pushing cracks no one planned for. Carl built a machine. But we? we were becoming a storm. And I was this close to getting my very own perfect revenge.

I wouldn't know how. I was lying on my bed staring at the ceiling, and somewhere in the background I could hear music pouring out of the speakers in the form of I Am Machine by Three Days Grace. The text of the chorus returned to my ears in a strange echo. I am a machine. I never sleep. I'm still keeping my eyes wide open. I am a machine. And part of me wishes I could smell again. Anything. I completely identified with that. Everything was so close and yet so far away. I think I somehow managed to completely cut myself off emotionally. I sure did, because now I couldn't smell anything at all... Which maybe should scare me.
