*Ember* It burned. My hands burned as though I’d stuck them in fire. I sobbed in pain, calling out for my mother. I pulled my hands back towards me, but that didn’t stop the pain. Looking down, I could see it was my hands that were the problem—they were glowing blindingly bright and burning themselves! Screaming, I tried to find my mother, my hands the only light in the darkness. Finally, her smiling face appeared. “Mama!” I cried. “Mama, it hurts! IT HURTS!!!”

And there would be no coming back for her after that. She wasn’t built for monsters like me. So she have to walk away. Sooner or later, she would. She have to. Because if she didn’t… I would drag her into my darkness myself. And the fire between us would burn her alive.

Bright I dropped a box and cursed, wasting the strength I had reserved to escape from there. Breathing was so hard. Every breath scraped my lungs, and every second was a constant drip of pain over my burned skin. The smell of metal, dried sweat, and despair filled everything. The bottled-up rage wasn't enough to trigger adrenaline in our brains. We needed to fight to leave this place, but our strength dwindled with each passing day. We didn’t even know exactly how many days we had been there, but we felt like we were in hell itself.

Luan walked into the flames. The fire did not burn her. The smoke did not choke her. The heat did not touch her. She walked through the burning valley until she reached the center of the clearing. Even his eyes flickered with a light that akin to a ravaging fire, but at the same time a bloodily splashing liquid that hardly boiled. He howered below to give the spotlight for the one and only Bright. This time she was feeling secure that there's answer and way to find her dearest sister. She hardly forget the stone and face the path that swaying about, a path that becomes a stormy and messy for them to cross.

'It will burn you, and everyone.' My breathing felt even more labored now. And in the next second, a very bright bias of light instantly hit me. And made my eyes feel very dazzled. The light was so dazzling that I immediately covered my eyes with my forearms. But after that, what I felt was not only the warmth of the light that hit me now. But it was something else.

The musty scent of old paper filled the air, but I ignored it. My focus was solely on the words I was reading as the title caught my attention: ‘Purification & Shield’. I turned the page, my eyes scanning the text. “This ability is the faint red light coming from the holder’s hands, a red transparent light surrounding the hand of the holder,” I read aloud, my voice filled with wonder. “This ability can burn anyone, capable of inflicting an incurable and excruciating pain. A kind of pain that will torture its victim.”
