Matched (Mortal, Book Three)
"Yeah, and if we were to swim into it, an invisible force field would probably stop us at some point."
"Like a video game," I muse.
"Exactly." He sits on a rock and gingerly touches his leg. "One of those little jerks bit me."
"Let me see." Bending, I roll up his pant leg.
There's a small, red mark on his calf, but it doesn't look too serious.
"It doesn't look infected or anything," I announce.
"I'm more annoyed than anything. They're so tiny, and yet they almost won."
Smirking, I roll his pant leg back down. When I look up, our eyes catch, and there's an unexpected moment where my stomach does a flip.
