My voice was firm, though exhaustion weighed every word. I could feel the blood still seeping, the pain a dull roar in my shoulder, but I held her gaze, daring her to push further.
Caroline’s eyes blazed, her lips trembling with unspoken words. She shook her head, her hands clenching into fists.
“You’re impossible,” she spat, her voice thick with frustration and fear. Without another word, she turned and stormed down the hall, her footsteps fading into the hospital’s din.
