The line goes dead and I stare at my phone for a second before setting it aside like the conversation didn’t matter because, in the long run, it doesn’t.
Toby scoots closer to the couch, holding up his creation again, this time with more confidence.
“It’s a car,” he announces proudly.
I lean forward slightly, actually taking the time to look at it properly.
“Looks like one,” I say.
He grins. “It doesn’t break anymore.”
“Good,” I reply. “That means you did it right.”
He climbs up onto the couch beside me without asking, pressing into my side and I rest my arm around him automatically, my hand settling against his shoulder.
