Deep Inside
The air smelled like rain and smoke.
She shouldn’t have come.
“Lost, Night?”
The voice cut through the darkness, sharp and rough, sliding beneath her skin.
Derina froze. Out of the shadows, a figure emerged, tall, broad, wearing a black shirt that clung to muscle and tattoos that twisted down his arms. The flick of a lighter briefly illuminated his face: Cavin Coby. The most dangerous name her family had drilled into her bones.
Her pulse skipped, then raced.
“Not lost,” she said, forcing a smirk she didn’t feel. “Just… wandering.”
