Not His Destiny
He lowers his head and brushes a brief kiss over my lips.
“I’m not abandoning you or your family, Cici. I promised you forever, didn’t I?”
My hands move on their own, gripping his arms.
“Forever,” I repeat softly, almost dazed.
I remember our promises, how in love we were, before the wedding kept getting postponed. Before tension wore us thin. Forever was our word. Our mantra.
“Cici,” he murmurs, cupping my face gently. “I love you. Deeply.”
My heart actually stops for half a second, before beating hard again.
