But my eyes widened when I heard the loud growls of the monsters clashing. I looked into the distance and saw the giant snake wrestle...and the three-headed wolf—the Cerberus. I swallowed because they were both so big. Cerberus is silver in color and has long fur. It bit the giant snake's neck and I heard how the snake roared and quickly wrapped its body around Cerberus. Cerberus fell and that created a slight tremor. I want to run away to get away from them. While the two were busy fighting, it was difficult for me to move because they were both blocking the only way back to the place Erigor had made.

Red ink scrawled across printouts of Greek translations. Cerberus: Guardian of the Underworld. Chimera: Fire-breathing horror. Eternal opposites. Gatekeeper and Destroyer. Her eyes burned from staring too long at the same paragraphs. But every time she blinked, she saw the mall. She saw Cerebus sedated, collapsing, dragged away like trash. She saw the newspapers calling him a monster. She clenched her jaw, whispering into the stale air: “You don’t even know him. None of you.”

At the center: Julian Blackthorn / Rogue Liaisons – Project Cerberus. He leaned back, mind racing. Cerberus. A rogue-control program. Illegal, buried years ago by the Council. If Julian had revived it, he wasn’t just framing them—he was building an army. A floorboard creaked. Dante appeared behind him, barefoot, eyes half-closed. “You don’t sleep much.” “Too much to think about.” “Then stop thinking.” He walked closer until Aiden could feel his warmth. Dante glanced at the screen, reading the name. “Cerberus. He’s serious.”

Al said he tried it only once, and Cerberus made a huge fuss afterward. "You like Taran, don't you?" I tilted my head, trying to search for his eyes. "No!" Cerberus turned his head to the side like a kid throwing a tantrum. I burst into laughter as I saw him blush at his own lie. He was really bad at lying. I tapped Cerberus on his ear and he fixed his eyes on me before I said: "I know you hate fire because fire hurts, but I have a secret about the fire that I want to tell you. Do you want to hear?"

Sasha gives me back complete control. “Hello, Ari, or did Sasha not give you back control?” The one head in the middle talks. I’m too dumbfounded as I stare at the largest fucking three-headed dog I’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s the only one, but fuck, if I weren’t afraid of Cerberus, I’d think he was badass looking. Cerberus has dark greasy gray fair with streaks of black running through it. He’s massive, like the size of a dozen Dire wolves. His eyes aren’t just red; they are literally fire. His mouth is skeletal-like, and I can see every fucking sharp and long tooth individually. Black goo drips from his jaws. He’s menacing, and I don't want to fight him.

But why would any wolves, aside from rogues, be fighting us? Any other wolf can sense our aura and knows not to fuck with the princess of werewolves. Kodi forces our body up and limps as she tries to rejoin the fight. Jax’s voice fills our head as he mind links her, “Don’t, Kodi, it’s a freaking three-headed monster dog. You can’t go against it.” I realize what it is and mutter, “Cerberus.” Kodi responds, “Cerb a what now?” “Cerberus, it’s a mythical dog. We must be in the underworld.”

With my wet hair curtaining my face, I emerged looking like the cavewoman I am. Pulling out the towel I had brought along, I dried my hair and face rubbing it red. When I moved the towel away from my face, a dark humongous figure caught me startled. With the distance, I couldn't quite grasp what it was. With a gasp I watched the structure shrunk down in size, into three dots which moved my way. As they came closer, I realized with a start that they were puppies with fur darker than night. My mind swirled around an article I read during my research on the Underworld. Cerberus, the three-headed dog, the guardian of the Underworld. They couldn't it, right?

He didn’t say anything, and I could feel his eyes burn into the side of my head, waiting. “Until he marked me, that is,” I smile recalling that first night he did it. “I thought the goddess knew what she was doing,” I laugh. I feel his stare starting to bore holes into my head, and I looked at him. “She’s never wrong,” I nod my head. That’s Derrick for you. His belief on the supernatural deity who created us and the rules that bind us to a pack hierarchy is stronger than others, his perspective, among other things. “That’s what they say.” I bobbed my head, “I tried, Derrick. I tried,” I couldn’t help the sob that escaped my throat. A crack on the glass, before I broke.
