I had planned to take back my father’s company, but now I am the one running it. I had planned to get married to Bran, make him love me wholeheartedly and then divorce him after a year as revenge for what I went through six years ago. But these past few days, I can’t seem to understand myself. Sometimes, I feel drawn to him, and my initial plans tend to recede from my mind. I suddenly heard a faint thud, and it seemed to come from the kitchen. I turned around to the direction of the kitchen and wondered what could have made such a sound.

" I laughed softly, incredulous. The gall of the accusation was almost funny. “Why would you think I’m using you?” "Oh, come on," Morris said, stepping closer, leaning his elbows on the balcony railing. "I did some digging on you." My stomach tightened, but I kept my expression schooled. He continued, voice dropping lower, "You're the former wife of Alexander Calloway." My chest was burning at the mention of that name, but I didn't flinch. I refused to. “And,” Morris went on, “you’ve been single ever since the divorce. But I’m not blind, Serena. Damien likes you. Kyle likes you. But somehow, you’ve managed to manipulate them both. Use them. Keep them loyal without offering them anything real

“How the hell could you ask me that? I loved you, Harry. We were never together.” He studies me, then smiles coldly. “I don’t believe you. But that’s fine.” He lifts the gun again, pressing it to my head. “Are you going to help us, Chase?” He asks, his voice a whisper now, smooth and deadly. “Or are you going to watch me kill my ex-wife — the woman you’re madly in love with?” I look at Chase — at the man who was never supposed to matter — and my heart fractures, slowly, silently.

“Drugging your ex-wife? Planning to play house in another country?” “Cheryse,” I growled, pissed. She’s not putting the kibosh on my plans. “What the hell are you doing here?” “Oh, don’t look so surprised, husband.” She laughed as she pulled a phone from her purse. “You think I don’t see what you do? I put a tracker on your car two weeks ago. I’ve been watching you, Caleb. Every sneaky little move.” My jaw tightened. “You bitch!” “Maybe,” she said with a shrug, “but at least I’m not delusional enough to think some washed-up little wife deserves the life I built with you.”

She had pretty much figured out that the reason she was called back was a calculated step towards getting her father back on the financing of the Denver's corporations. Natalie remembered how great she felt when she had so intelligently laid off Hailey and it was a feeling she pretty much savoured to the last second. She wanted to so immediately stamp herself as Chase's lawfully wedded wife and she knew it was a feat she couldn't achieve on her own. She needed help, and she needed it immediately. For as far as she knew, Chase nursed something for her but it needed to be trained to maturity before she could properly reap it's dividends.

The way her smile had once made his heart race. The way she had broken him. He clenched his jaw, his chest aching. She had chased him away like he was nothing. Tossed him aside as if all the moments they shared didn’t matter. So why was she back now? What did she want from him this time? Grayson pushed the papers aside and stood up, pacing across the room. His footsteps echoed in the large office, but it wasn’t enough to drown out the noise in his head. He walked to the window and stared out at the city below. The streets were crowded, people rushing back and forth, living their lives without a care for what he was feeling.

“She is married to Freddy. It seems like you forgot to add that.” He glanced at me. “Have you ever wondered to look into their marriage?” He narrowed his eyes. “And why should I?” I faced him squarely. “Why should I look into the marriage of my ex-wife? If she has chosen to move on, who am I to still bother her? I tried to tell her that Freddy was not who he claimed to be but she shut me up and told me not to speak ill of her husband. Tell me, David. What should I do?” I looked at the barman who was busy flirting with a woman that seemed high class.
