Seven AM is going to come real fast. I shoved the phone back under my pillow, rolled over, and stared at the dark wooden wall. A large, bald man in a white chef’s apron slammed a heavy metal ladle against a massive stainless-steel counter. His name was Chef Marco, and he looked like he hadn't smiled since 1995.

I felt eyes on me. I looked at the corner of the ceiling. A small black camera lens stared back. He was watching. I waved at the camera. "Good morning, creeper," I mouthed. It was tight across her chest. She had flour on her nose. She waved at the camera.

Slimes swarmed around our feet. “Where are the slimes going?” I asked. “Are they trying to escape from the lava?” “Why would they do that?” said the troll. “Slimes love lava. Love it. This lot are off to the kitchen. It’s nearly dinner time.” I had assumed the march of the slimes was due to the earthquakes, but apparently troll cooks had a method of summoning food like pizza delivery. “You eat slimes?” “Very tasty when they’re cooked.” “How do you cook something impervious to heat?” I asked, genuinely curious.

But then, as the truffles come into my possession, the sous chef’s face morphs into something unreadable, and suddenly, he’s cradling his wrist, howling in pain. “You wrenched my wrist! You hurt me!” he cries out. I stand there, truffles in hand, shocked. “I did no such thing! I didn’t even touch you!” His cries echo off the pantry walls, drawing eyes toward us like moths to a flame. The room falls deathly silent, save for his accusations. The camera swivels in our direction, eager to capture this drama for live television. “Look, everyone, I didn’t touch him! He’s lying!” I protest, holding out the truffles as evidence of his deceit. “He was swapping the ingredients. He took the black truff

He asked. He turned to his group. "These are my envoys. This includes my three finest chefs. I also have my royal taster and my guards." Stone pointed to a tall, muscular man with a scarred face. "This is Chef Fenris." Stone said. "He is the finest male chef in this time. Some people call him the master chef." He pointed to a thin man with a very long nose. "And this is Chef Varg." Stone added. "He has cooked to a point that he can no longer taste food. Just from the aroma he can predict the taste."

I'm sitting at the counter in what I'm assuming is the pack house kitchen, watching the chef make me his famous fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. Honestly it sounds absolutely amazing right now, I'm pretty sure I'm drooling. Zane said he had to go take care of some 'pack business' so it's just me and the chef, who told me his name is Rudy. "You know there's no way you're going to be my Luna or this packs Luna, considering I'm going to be the Luna. Zane just forgot that for a moment. But when he realizes you're nothing more than a mutt, he'll come to his senses and back to me."

Turning my head slightly, I called out, “Hey, what exactly are trolls?” Kael didn’t hesitate. His lips curled into a displeased scowl as he folded his arms tightly across his chest. “They’re ugly monster things,” he muttered with disdain, clearly not a fan. I fought back a laugh and raised an eyebrow, bringing the phone back to my ear. “Sounds like an action movie to me,” I said to Dante, half-teasing. “You know, trolls under bridges, terrorizing villagers or whatever. Might be a fun change of pace.”

Cooper turned his gaze to Pong but Pong was also surprised and looked away then looked at his second boss. Then there was another sound accompanied by a foul smell and everyone could see that the Warrior Chief had grabbed his stomach and butt. He seemed to have a bad feeling in his stomach so he grinned shyly as if he was angry. He motioned to Pong and he immediately approached him. Even Randell was unable to speak even though he was still covering his nose with the palm of his hand to avoid the foul smell that was caused by the Chief Warrior. His stomach suddenly felt bad, so it brought his diarrhea to his clothes, causing the Head Chef to leave without being able to say goodbye to everyone

The chef, known for his volcanic temper and crippling perfectionism, was now terrorizing his staff, searching for the "critic." No one noticed Ivan slip past the chaos, through a service hatch, and into the dark, cool expanse of the old wine cellar. No one, that is, except the "waiter" the chef had just accused of being a "donkey in a tuxedo." That waiter was Marcus. He watched Ivan disappear and tapped his earpiece, a grim smile on his face. "Predator is in the den. All teams, hold. Let the mouse find the cheese."
