Cassssss?” I put the phone back to my ear, ignoring the chaos in Lory’s background. “Thank God you finally called.” “Damn it! Mission failed! Mission failed!” Lory’s voice trembled with panic. “There’s a full-blown clash of clans happening out here, Cass! A bunch of barbarians just stormed in, driving hummers—no, worse—they’ve got insane w*apons!”

The clone's scream echoed off concrete walls as strobe lights erupted through the darkness. I dropped into a combat crouch, rifle sweeping the blackness—until a boot connected with my ribs. I pounded on his arm as I looked at the man on the ground. “Let me down!” I yelled at Alessio but he ignored me, running through the reception and out the front doors, Callie slightly in front of him. It was luck, really, that Alessio had heard the man say there were explosives because as soon as we reached the car and reversed as far away from the building as we could, an explosion went off and the building went up in flames, the walls crumbling as the plume of debris rose in the sky. We made it out with seconds to spare. The smoke and fire reached into the sky, stretching long, red fingers toward the scorching sun before falling back to the building with a sigh of relief.

They looked like they are really having fun, so I took photos and even some videos of then while they were playing to capture that. The Northern pack retaliated!” My heart stopped. “No... it couldn't have—” Yasmine shoved me back down to the ground with everything she had. “It did!” She screamed, her voice cracking as a fresh wave of tears tracked through the dirt on her cheeks.

Echo intercepted her mid-turn, grabbing her by the collar and shoving her back into another clone so hard they both staggered. Then the world exploded into motion. I slammed my shoulder into a blurred-faced clone, knocking it sideways into a beam. Another grabbed my wrist; the marked one, and heat flared so sharply I cried out. It was like my skin had touched a forge. The clone recoiled instantly, hissing, as if the mark had burned it. Echo was a storm beside me, ducking under a swinging arm, her elbow cracking into a throat. The clone gasped, collapsing, but another stepped over its body without hesitation.

The moment Mateo turned, he saw Ava drowning. Without hesitation, he plunged into the water. He didn't even kick off his shoes, just launched himself towards the water. The splash echoed across the pool area. Beneath the surface, the chlorine stung his eyes, but he didn't care. He had to save her.
