I peaked into the small spot which was transparent but I could barely see anything because of all the smoke. I took out the dagger and tried to pick the lock but it took a lot of time and patience before the smoke hit my face and I started coughing. After using my hand to lessen the smoke, I caught a glimpse of Cassidy who was tied to a chair and unconscious. As I ran towards her I noticed the fire was spreading rapidly and was only a few steps away from her. I held my dagger tight and cut through the ropes and freed Cassidy from the chair and then carried her from the center of the circle to outside the gym.

I clung to him, my knuckles white, my fear too intense to ignore. Tears pricked at my eyes, and I felt nauseous. I couldn’t handle it anymore. “Please… I want to get off!” I cried, my voice trembling with panic. Ares didn’t speak. Instead, he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close. My eyes widened as I saw a flush of fur and teeth revealing a group of wolves who leaped out of the bushes, lunging at the men close to the roadblocks.

“Alpha Wyatt is in front of the mansion with six wendigos. Send help!” Rage, pure and blinding, consumed me. Something snapped inside. I began killing the wendigos like an unthinking machine, trying desperately to cleave a path to my mate. But they were everywhere, blocking my path as if aware of their master’s plot. “I’m trapped. The ambush was a trap.” Claire’s voice came in again, thick with distress. “Claire! Speak to me! What is happening? Please hold on, I’m almost there!” I yelled anxiously through our bond.
