AVA I stood beside Derek and our team, my heart pounding in my chest as we crept through the shadows of the Golden Claw Palace. The night air was thick with tension, and I could feel the weight of our mission bearing down on us. We had stolen codes and inside information that would help us slip through the back gate undetected, but I knew that didn't guarantee our safety. As we moved closer to the palace, I felt a strange sensation building inside me. It was as if my bond with Cane was growing stronger, like an invisible thread connecting us across the distance.

Three days ago, Raven told me there was a territorial dispute in the south that required his presence. Vera was more familiar with the clan relations there. It was a reasonable explanation. I had no grounds to object. Before they left that morning, I slipped the Dissolution of Betrothal and Resignation from Clan into the middle of his approval stack. I had prepared it carefully, every clause in order. He did not read it. His seal went on without a second glance. Three days remained. Once I finished handing over my remaining responsibilities, I would be done.
