The Captain of the Guard was a silent, steadfast shadow, his loyalty a small, warm ember in the cold, lonely darkness of the hall.
“They are like sharks, my King,” Ronan said, his voice a low, cautious murmur. “They can smell blood in the water.”
“Let them smell it,” Kaelen said, his voice a low, dangerous growl. “I am not dead yet.”
“No,” Ronan agreed. “But you are wounded. And a wounded king is a dangerous king. Dangerous to himself, and dangerous to his kingdom.”
