Alan becomes frightened, when Alferd Atkinston threatnes him that the man will kill the mermaid. Therefore, Alan trying to save the mermaid. But a misunderstanding occurs, Lake thinks that Alan will take his wife. Because of that, the tragedy of killing each other between the brothers occured.
