I still don’t completely trust myself, either. We head inside and I take Codi to her room so Lenora and Bronx can talk about the woman named Cora and the Feral. I sit in the beanbag chair and put Codi on my lap. We read a book about dragons eating tacos. She helps me turn the pages and points to the colorful pictures as I read in silly voices. I feel her yawn against me as she settles in a little deeper. “Au Ka?” she says in her sleepy little voice. “Yes, Niece Codi?” I set the book down and cover her before I give her a kiss on the forehead.

Sometimes we go to a book club which we both love. “Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover.” “Oh my God. I love that book. It made me cry.” “Yeah I know. It’s the third time I’m reading it.” I put some laughing emojis on the message. “What are you reading?” I ask her. “Things We Left Behind. Lucy Score.” She has placed heart emojis and book emojis at the end of her message. “Oh wow. I love that book. I’ve read the two after it. You need to get them.” I tell her, noticing that a smile is on my face as I lay here in the dark.

While Kingston was doing his part, I checked around the place, scanning the entire area when we both spoke simultaneously. “There!” We pointed toward the small shelf in the far end corner, near the fireplace. I sped, then grabbed the book. It was the same as the last one I had read and when I turned to the last page, THE END was written. “Yes! This is the one!” I exclaimed. “But it’s a lot to read,” Kingston complained. “You forgot that I’m a fast reader,” I smirked. As I scanned through, I came across the word “Symbiotic Bond,” and the phrase triggered something.

I nodded and he smiled. “Pack up nice clothes. Miami is not all that friendly. I would know that cause I grew up there.” He warned and I nodded. “Great. So, what were you saying?” He pointed to the book I still had in my grip. I looked down at it for a moment before glancing back up at him. “I didn't know you read.” I mentioned as I placed the book on the table. All your perfects by Colleen Hoover. “I used to read a lot. But lately, I haven't read a good book. Coleen is a very wonderful writer. And this book is a bomb.” He said, shocking me. He must have noticed that I was shocked with the way my lips parted slightly and my eyes widened.
