Creepy Book Covers Novels & Stories

My eyes widened with anticipation, but inside, I found only a thick, leather-bound book. The cover was faded and worn, with the strange symbol embossed on it; a triangle with three circles inside. I ran my fingers over the symbol, a chill creeping up my spine. I had no idea what it meant, but it seemed significant, almost sacred. With hands that trembled, I lifted the book from the chest. The pages were thick and yellowed, and an old, musky smell filled the air as I carefully opened it.

I stared at the title. Grim Boundaries, Containment Rituals and Demonic Anchors. Alright. That was on the nose. I tugged it free. It thudded onto the table like it weighed more than it should. The pages were vellum-thin, covered in curling script and ink illustrations that danced uncomfortably close to realism. Demons, mostly. Circles. Knots. Symbols. Some looked familiar from childhood fairy tales, horror movies, that phase in college when I thought being into witchcraft was a personality.

An icy chill rippled along my spine at what lay open on the table before me. A hardcover book with a yellow cover, its pages gilded golden-yellow. I bit my lip hard enough to taste a little blood. I didn’t look at the book’s text. Something in my mind shrank back from the notion. Inwardly I cringed at the idea that I might’ve read anything from that damn yellow book at all . . . Maybe it’s a different book; maybe it’s a novel I checked out from the library, or . . . I reached out, hand trembling, and with a finger—as if afraid of touching some deadly waste—flicked the book shut with a fingertip. The cover filled me with a creeping, ice-cold dread.

Turning the cover for me to see he said, “So this is your favorite book, huh?” Wondering what had him looking so sly I focused my eyes on the cover and I immediately felt a rush of heat flare through my body. Countless shelves lined with weathered books and scrolls stretched into the distance, promising untold secrets and forgotten wisdom. They made their way through the labyrinthine aisles, their eyes scanning the titles and searching for any mention of Lycans or black magic. Dust danced in the rays of sunlight that filtered through stained glass windows, lending an ethereal quality to their journey. Finally, she found the one she was looking for. Layla managed to grab the book and add it to her stack in her arms when her eyes caught sight of something. A book stood out among the rest. It was bound with dark brown leather and had brandished designs on the spine. The title read - Malleus Vampiro: A Treatise on Vampires. Placing her other books on the floor, Layla pulled the leather-bound book from its home amongst the others and opened it. I moved my flashlight to where I saw a row of old armor lined up against the wall, there were some rusty swords and shields that I couldn't help but think that these shields had been here way before the Lycan King had even been born, there must have been used for a battle a hundred years ago or even more. My eyes slowly moved to spot the velvet-covered book and something written on it with golden ink that shined in the light coming through the open window. Despite thinking to ignore it at first, I found myself walking towards it a few moments later. Something about leaving this book without looking through it did not feel right to me, it just made me feel some sort of anxiousness I was not ready to deal with.
