Remembering made me shudder. He gave me a sharp look. "You heard them? Felt them?" "I - Yes, I think so." I stepped closer to him, suddenly afraid. I knew nothing about where I was. Leo placed his hands on my bare arms. "Those are the Cursed. They are creatures who turned their backs on Polonias and the goodness of the magic in the land. They are like the demons of your world. Some are desperate for a way out of the darkness, while others seek to pull unsuspecting travelers in. They are the cause of the Sickness." He shook his head. "Did you understand them?"

My image finally started blurring, but it’s not my family that’s reflecting back at me this time. It’s Creed, bloody and bruised. He screamed as the chains that held him rattled. The mirrors surrounding him played images of burning buildings and people running. I can hear their screams, their innocent. Just as fast as they came, the images vanished. They were replaced by a battle, but I don’t recognize anyone. The image of a black wolf is positioned above the battle in the mirror. An image of a vampire was on the mirror next to it. I can hear screams of pain and heartbreak as I watch the victims from both sides fall.

Then the doctor ran in as we stepped back and Xavier growled as he was male, unmated and unmarked as far as we could tell. "I came as quickly as I could, alpha, what's going on?" he asks, looking at the unconscious girl in front of me. A gasp of fear and shock escapes him and he backs away. "You have to kick her out!! I cannot treat her! She's the Cursed Rogue!! She matches the description perfectly! Alpha, she cannot-" I snapped. "SILENCE!" Xavier roared. It was rare for our wolves to actually speak on their own like that without their human counterpart, but in this instance, I was right along with him. The doctor instantly closed his mouth and bowed his head in submission.

Evan squeezed harder, making Carmen cough. "Die!" "Do you really want me dead? Don't you want to know where Lyra's head is?" Carmen used the last of her strength to say this. Evan froze for a moment before slowly releasing his grip. After a while, Carmen got up and opened the fridge. There were two glass jars inside with my head and kidney both soaking in formaldehyde.

With her creased hands folded in her lap, the elder who had raised her voice bowed her head. "You mean to postpone it?" "Until it's time for the pack." With a forceful voice that broke through their unspoken words, I said. "Having no rite is preferable to having a cursed one." For a moment, my only response was the crackle of flames. The elders then slowly nodded their heads in accord, one by one. Elder Vara, the youngest and seventh member of the council, leaned back in his chair from the far end of the crescent.

My voice cracked on the words because I was certain that he did love me. Confusion marred her perfect features. “Is he sick?” Because truly, that would be the only other problem. “He's cursed.” I blurted out. “Cursed?” She sounded disbelieving. “Yes, cursed.” I spent the next few minutes explaining Brian's curse, his age, the death of his prior mates, and the future event of my possible death.

It wasn't like I hadn't tried telling my family about the curse. A month ago, the pack witch, Alina Lopez, told me that the curse was extremely deadly, with no way of lifting it. I would be coughing up blood and dying in a month. The first thing I did was to return home to see my family. As soon as I walked in, I saw my older brother, Kent Greene, happily holding up a beautiful new dress against Natali Fisher. "Dad, Mom, look at the dress Kent bought for me—isn't it beautiful?" Natali twirled around with the dress and looked over to Mom and Dad.
