Curse Me, Curse You
"It's my fault, Emma… Please come back—"
Dad numbly stood up and walked out to the woodshed.
The corner where I curled up before dying was finally opened, releasing a thick, foul stench of blood.
Through the one small window, Dad caught a glimpse of the courtyard where they often played with Natali.
He suddenly let out a silent laugh. A strange, eerie chuckle echoed from within his throat, where no normal sound could be produced.
As he laughed, Dad picked up a wooden stick and approached the fire pit where they'd cooked mushroom soup for Natali. He then set our entire home ablaze with the burning stick.
