I walked away, leaving Lillian and Danielle behind in the destroyed living room, and made my way upstairs. Roars and shouts shook the walls, vibrating through the halls like an earthquake. Damien was furious. He wasn’t just angry—he was desperate. His mate was in danger, and he didn’t understand what was happening. Someone was threatening me, the person he swore to protect. I knew this because I felt every single one of his emotions. Standing in front of the bedroom door, I took a deep breath and pushed it open.

Immediately after Damien stepped into his hotel suite and started walking towards his wardrobe, he noticed a red light beeping beside the room cushion. He moved towards it and quickly realized it was a fixed bomb. Damien knew it would be too dangerous and too late to try disarming it, so he sprinted towards the door. Just as he managed to open it and run out, the explosion went off, and the force flung him against the opposite wall. He hit his back and head, falling unconscious instantly.

I close the door after handing him the phone and I tap the hood and stand back as the car pulls out of the driveway. What ever is going on has just started a war and I feel sorry for who ever dared cross her. Walking back into the computer room I press the lock down button, locking myself, Damien, and YS safe behind soundproof steel doors. “There” I hear Damien say while he type a few more buttons, then on the big screen is pure mayhem. Demi’s ducked behind shipping crates with two unknown men by her side. One’s holding out a clip for her to re-load her gun while another’s ripping a piece off her shirt before pulling her back down.

Lots of people in the quadrangle we went down, high school students mostly. Though, there are also colleges. Some were even watching us from the corridors of the buildings. Leaving like that… it puts you in danger.” Her throat tightened. The danger part wasn’t new but the way he said it was. Like it wasn’t a threat, but a warning. “Dante—” “Lock your doors,” he interrupted quietly. “And don’t trust anyone tonight.” The line went dead. She stared at her phone, pulse hammering.

🌹 Damien 🌹 The underground safehouse was dimly lit, the harsh fluorescent lights flickering intermittently as the team settled into a rare moment of calm. The air was thick with exhaustion, the weight of their near-constant battle settling heavily on each member of the group. Damien leaned against a table, eyes closed, taking in the muffled sounds of distant gunfire and the steady hum of the bunker’s generators. It had been a long day—too long. The chaos of the mission still lingered in his mind, but for the first time in days, the team had found a brief window to breathe. They were alive. For now, that was enough.
