Danielle Steel Audiobook Novels & Stories

Too late, she screams so loud that I go temporarily deaf in my right ear for a few minutes and when I don’t answer, I hear her say something muffled. Moving the phone to the other side, I ask, “Can you please repeat that?” “Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I can’t believe it. My little Dani is finally going to have a family of her own.” She cries out right before she screams again.

“You can’t destroy someone like her. You have to outlive her.” He didn’t respond. But I saw the fire in his eyes. The same fire that had protected me more times than I could count. --- Later that night, Danielle returned. Her laptop was open before she even set her purse down. “I found something,” she said, eyes serious. “You both need to see this.” I braced myself. Because in my world? Good news always had a cost. She tapped a few keys. Pulled up an audio file. “Intercepted call. Robert and your stepfather.”

For now. --- The next morning, the scent of coffee drifted through the house, but it was the hushed conversation that caught my attention. Danielle was speaking with someone in the sitting room, her voice measured but firm. “I don’t need a reminder of what’s at stake.” A pause. A rustle of fabric. “You should,” the other voice replied. Female. Older. A thread of warning laced through her tone. “You’re playing with fire.” Danielle’s laugh was quiet, almost amused. “Maybe I like the burn.”

“Interesting.” “Okay, you’re starting to make me feel like some kid’s third-grade science project. What is so interesting?” “You’re interesting, Danielle. If that woman wasn’t a deabru, I’d be impressed.” Dannie sighed dramatically, lowering her shirt. “Please explain to the class?” “You have a strong magical current running through you,” she replied. “But I thought you said I wasn't—”

So thin I might snap at any minute. “Hello everyone.” A voice comes next. Cold. Commanding. Familiar. My nerves react instantly to it. Recognition flares hot inside me. The others begin murmuring around me. “Sorry to have kept you all waiting.” El Diablo? No. No. That can't be possible. “Diablo?” Anastasia's voice comes, fury lacing every word. “One and only.” Diablo's smug response comes from the other end of the line. “Is that Anastasia?” He teases. “The only woman bold enough to hold those men to ransom in Guccini's organization.”

I wanted to help him, to ease some of that burden, but I wasn’t sure how. I caught sight of Daniela in the library, her long black hair tied back as she flipped through a thick leather-bound book. If anyone would know how to get through to Alex, it was her. Daniela had been by his side for years, and though she rarely spoke of it, I knew she had insights into the man behind the steely exterior. "Daniela," I called, walking over to her. She looked up, her sharp brown eyes softening slightly when she saw me. "Kelly. What brings you here so early?"

Danielle “Will you just listen to your best friend and know that she is looking out for you?” Kim asked. “You’ve only ever been with one guy and he kind of ripped you off, so you’re both naïve and gun-shy in the face of hot guys.” “I’m not a child, Kim,” I pointed out. “I’m not saying you are, Dani. But you’re sweet and you see the good in everyone. You even give Steve somewhat of the benefit of the doubt most of the time.”
