My other hand balled into a fist, as I let my ice cream drop, pulling Danny along towards the exit. “The crazy desire for blood, the presence in the night, the irritated reaction to garlic…” Danny kept on muttering things as we left. I could smell the fear all over him. I turned to him, grabbing his chin and pushing his head up. “What the fuck is your problem?” I asked, as I let go of him almost immediately. “He's a vampire.” He said, his hands shaking like he was about to suffer epilepsy. “Moon Goddess,” I said under my breath, rubbing my face with my palms as I sighed. “There's no way I'd get beaten by a vampire, that thing was way too strong, and his obviously not a vampire.”

“Go on then, what brings you to the area? I’ve been here about a year and although I don’t come into town much, I’ve never seen you around until that night in the store.” She was so much fun to tease. How to best answer this without lying. “I’m a personality scout for a group called the Alpha Counsel. I cover the west coast. I’ve been doing it for a few years but it’s been awhile since I made it back to this area again.” It wasn’t the whole truth but it wasn’t all that far off either. “My turn,” I smiled wolfishly. “Why do you go by Danny? I admit I looked through your wallet to see if you had anyone I could contact for you when you were unconscious.”

Either Danny’s spiral was so impulsive he wasn’t taking the time to consider the blatant crumbs left in his wake, or worse, those crumbs had been laid with a deliberate hand.
