Dane started, but she had already walked right into the clearing. The largest beast snarled and lunged, fast. Too fast. I screamed. But Lila didn’t move. She closed her eyes… and hummed. It was soft. Familiar. I recognized it instantly. A lullaby. The one Zane used to hum to her when she had nightmares. “Lila…” I whispered, heart pounding. The beast froze mid-step. Its body twitched. Its head tilted, confused. She kept humming. The other two beasts stopped too.

Lyra Darkness wasn’t just the absence of light. It breathed. It pulsed. It whispered her name like a lullaby laced with poison. The Hollowed Ones hadn’t chained her, yet Lyra had never felt more trapped. The forest surrounding her wasn’t the same forest Kael had once dragged her from. This place… it bled a sickness into the air. The trees were ash-colored and moaning softly in the windless night. No stars broke through the canopy. No moonlight reached the floor.

" I heard the voice whispered in my ear, a promise that made my soul yearn to reach, that made me fall to my knees, taking a deep breath as tears streamed down my face. "Remember the stars?" I whisper. "How you wanted to sing them back?" His tarnished scars flicker. The city stutters. I hum-the lullaby I forged for him, the one the Weaver tried to burn from my bones. The Echoes freeze. The swarm stills.

The same old words I whisper to myself whenever I come back to this nightmare. "Goodnight, little one. As I run and run in the dark the lullaby keeps playing somewhere in the room. The footsteps approaching, the lyrics of the song are becoming unclear as it gets distorted changing into a deep, heavy, scary voice that seemingly comes underneath the ground.

(DOLL’S LULLABY) “LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA.” She started to sing, humming her favorite lullaby that always marks with the tone of eeriness and dread.
