I begged, tears streaming down my face, "Mom, please listen to me! It's not like that; why won't you just hear me out—" Before I could finish, a series of slaps left me dazed, stars dancing in my vision. I looked at them coldly. "You're trespassing. I can call the police." "I'm your mom!" My mother shook with rage. "You ungrateful thing. If I had known you'd turn out this vicious, I should've strangled you the day you were born."

“How can I ever explain this to our child? That her father turns into a wolf under the moon? That her blood might get her killed?” She laughed bitterly, shaking her head. “This is insane.” Marie moved toward the door. “If staying with you means endangering our daughter, then I can’t do it.
