The sound of people pretending not to watch the same thing, pretending not to smell the blood already in the water. The nobility were in top form this morning—dressed in opulencelike armor, as always. Silks that whispered secrets when they moved, brocades heavy as chainmail, pins the size of daggers catching firelight. Rings circled every finger like tiny crowns.
